MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING
MEETING SITE - COUNTRY INN, NORTHFIELD
Thursday, August 14, 2003
Meeting called to order by President Odman at 1:00 p.m.
All directors answered roll call.
Motion Brennan, second Wegscheid, carried, to approve the minutes from the July meeting as mailed.
The board met with tournament chairman Bill Nelson of Dundas, and Mike Allen of Northfield. Last minute details were over and finalized. President Odman extended best wishes to both sites for a good tournament.
Motion Roufs, seconded Fischer, carried, to reinstate Tony Nelson of Holdingford, Nelson was suspended for three games for not getting permission to play in a wood bat league. Nelson sat out his three-game suspension during regional play, making him eligible for state tournament play.
Motion Fiemeyer, seconded Wegscheid, carried, to suspend Chris Ebnet of Holdingford for three games for not getting permission to play in a wood bat league in Australia. Ebnet sat out two games in region play and must sit out the first game in state play to be eligible.
Motion Brennan, seconded Wegscheid, carried, to approve Jake Eiler to play fo the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods league, then return to Morris for post season play providing he meets his four game eligibility.
Motion Fischer, seconded Brennan, carried, to approve Bobby Zellman to play in the (perfect game) tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Aug. 27 thru Sept. 3. Should they qualify, they would play in the wood bat tournament in Jupiter, Florida, Oct. 24-27, 2003.
Motion Forsman, seconded Fischer, carried, to approve the following players to return to MBA status from their wood bat leagues. Rick Rohne to Austin Greyhounds, Travis Johnson to Dassel/Cokato, Sean Breslin to Hayfield/Austin.
Motion Fischer, seconded Odman, carried, to approve the following teams to play non-MBA teams. (r Royals) to play Rochester Businessmen, (Essig) to play the Cleveland Spiders Indp., (Kasson) to play Randolph, (Perham) to play Perham American Legion.
A letter was received from Chad Hess, manager of the Melrose Black Sox. He was requested to move the Melrose team to Freeport. This is due to poor playing conditions in Melrose. Melrose played all their home games this year in New Munich. After some discussion, motion Fischer, seconded Forsman, carried, to approve Melrose to move to Freeport, their 2003 roster would be grandfathered in.
Another season has come and gone with the state tournament championship games being completed on Labor Day. We would like to thank Dundas and Northfield for a job well done.
Congratulations to our 2003 state champions, (Class A Minnetonka), (Class B Austin Greyhounds) two years running, (Class C Green Isle). This year's tournament attendance was (12,227).
Remember the Hall of Fame Banquet to be held at the Civice Center, St. Cloud on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003. A fun night for everyone.
The next meeting of the MBA will be the annual meeting to be held at the legion club in Sauk Rapids, on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003. All league officers and commisioners will receive meeting cards, please return cards by Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, so we can make plans for meals. There will be a commisioner's meeting at 1 p.m., the state board will meet at 2 p.m., dinner will be served at 4:30 with annual meeting to follow.
There being no further business, motion Wegscheid, seconded Brennan, carried to adjourn.
