On a bright, beautiful night at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Tony Richards, Mitch Swaggert and Dave Bingham were inducted as the newest members of the Minnetonka Millers Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
Richards and Bingham are still active players for the Millers. Swaggert retired in 2006 after defeating Wesley Homes in the title game. Bingham and Swaggert are both left-handed pitchers and they have the most victories in club history. Richards is the Captain of the Millers and is one of the top catchers in the State. The ceremony was held between the fourth and fifth innings of a game with the Dundas Dukes and included seven other Minnetonka Hall of Famers that attended the game.

Minnetonka beat the Dukes 5-2 in a game that was broken open in the Miller's half of the seventh inning. Joe Schallenberger doubled home Craig Urbain and Tony Richards appropriately capped the night off with a two-run homer on the next pitch from Dundas starter Ed Hagberg. There was no doubt of where that ball was headed as it left the park in a hurry. The win brings the Miller's record to 36-4 for the season. They are a perfect 18-0 in the Riverview League.
Minnetonka is the two-time defending State "A" Champion and has won eight state tournaments including five since 2001. For more on the Millers check out their website at: www.minnetonkamillers.com. |
