Last year Belle Plaine, managed by local legend Johnny Miller, qualified for the state class "C" tournament. This year they have started out 1-7, but that has not dampened their enthusiasm. They are planning a huge weekend of baseball, the "Tiger Alumni Weekend" for May 30, 31, and June 1. Over 350 invitations have been sent out to former Tiger alumni and their families.
On Friday night May 30, it will be Belle Plaine versus Milroy in a rematch of the state title game of 1994. Belle Plaine was the victor in that game with Barry Wohler pitching. This will be the first time these two teams have met since that day in Arlington. The night will also be "Dollar Beer Night."
On Saturday, the "Tiger Open" golf tournament will be held at Valley View Golf Course in Belle Plaine. This is open to everyone that is interested in playing. Contact Shane Hoffmann at 952-484-2319 for more details.
Sunday brings on the Old Timer's Game. For the first time in 25 years the Belle Plaine old-timers will get together and play a game against Jordan. The game will start at noon and continue until approximately 1:30 P.M., or until everyone is out of breath. At 2:00 P. M. the Jordan and Belle Plaine regular town teams will play a River Valley League game. Jordan is having another fine season and Belle Plaine is ready for the challenge.
To top off the weekend, Belle Plaine's 35 and over team will take on the Hanska Bulldogs, a team that could play with most regular teams. The Hanska team features Terry Steinbach and many other great players from the New Ulm area. That game will begin at 6:00 P.M. Make it out to Belle Plaine this weekend for some great entertainment.
